Our first road trip took us to the east end of the island to visit Devil’s Bridge about which tales of woe abound. It is said that anyone who falls into the water here never comes out alive. The drive into the park was an adventure all by itself, then came the climb up to rock formation making up the bridge. The car rental company never mentioned a need for a four wheel drive vehicle, but one would have come in handy here. I almost got our little Suzuki stuck in one of the deep rock potholes when our front wheels dropped and one of the rear wheels came off the ground!
Antigua is the driest island in the Eastern Caribbean; water was unavailable at the marinas during our stay.
From the Bridge we drove to the very eastern end stopping at the Long Beach Bar for a gourmet lunch, cardboard microwave burgers and soggy fries. Not a spot we’d recommend for any serious food, but the drinks were good though. And the view!
