After having spent the month of October 2013 on-board Ocean Angel as she sat on the hard, working from dawn to dusk and beyond each day, I was anxious for Joy to see the results of all my hard work on the interior. So, on January 8th, when we boarded Caribbeans Airlines Flight 485 from Orlando, Florida to Port of Spain, Trinidad, I was just a little bit excited. I think Joy had a few butterflies in her tummy as well.
We arrived late at night and found Jesse James maxi-taxi waiting for us at the curb. For those of us who voyage to Trinidad, Jesse is the best friend you can have. He has been incredibly kind and helpful to Joy and me, and he is always there when we need him, every time, on-time, a rarity in this world. The taxi took us to the hotel at Power Boats where we spent the next 3 days working on final preparations in advance of our launch date.
As Joy and I looked out our window towards the boat, there she sat, gleaming in the early morning sun. For the first time we came back to find our Angel as she should be, perfect, just like we left her. No nasty surprises, and most of the contractor’s projects were completed. All we needed were the finishing touches.
Our launch went without a hitch, and the only hiccup in those first few days was a little shuffling around at Crews Inn due to a rather long spell of very strong winds pinning all the would be northbound travelers hard to the dock. The strong weather held until the end of the month, but we weren’t in the least disturbed as we had plenty to keep us occupied once at the dock.
When Joy climbed aboard Ocean Angel at Crews Inn, she was bubbling over with excitement in anticipation of her first look at the new interior. Descending the companionway steps she entered an interior of near perfection. I was just as excited as she, even though I knew exactly what was waiting. She stepped into an almost completely new interior with a new cabin sole, a new galley counter, headliners, cabinets, and more. A brand new home.
Rather than duplicate all the information and photos here, we’ll encourage you to take a look at the entire process in the section under our boat. For now
